Stillness as a mirror

Content

Stillness is not only calm, it is also an honest mirror that reflects what we usually try to hide: our uncomfortable truths, our contradictions, even our deep-seated fears. In the fast pace of everyday life, it is easy to avoid these truths. Noise, distractions and haste create a protective veil that keeps us away from that inner confrontation which, though uncomfortable, is deeply healing.

When we stop the constant race, when we cease the agitation of making and producing, silence arises. And it is in that silence that we come face to face with our shadow and our light, with all that we are beyond the surface that we show to the world. This stillness is not always peaceful at first; it can be unsettling, challenging even. It is like entering an unknown forest in the dark: at first you see only shadows, but slowly your eyes adapt and you begin to discern clear shapes, forgotten details, ignored paths.

Stillness allows for an authentic dialogue with oneself. It forces us to confront essential questions that we often avoid: Who am I really when I am not defined by my roles? What do I desire beyond the expectations of others? What wounds still need attention, forgiveness or reconciliation?

Thus, this silent space not only reveals, it also offers transformative potential. As we stand there, with courage and patience, we begin to slowly unravel inner knots, clear confusions and accept what emerges without judgement. Stillness then ceases to be just a temporary respite and becomes a courageous act of self-knowledge, a tool for growth and acceptance.

To recognise and honour this deep dimension of stillness is to accept that true peace comes not from the absence of external noise, but from the courage to face, in silence, the most honest reality within.
